My Story

Before I started working with CIS I didn't like to read much. I thought it was boring. But now I like to read stories and I take the time to read when my teachers assign chapters for homework.
Dr. Warren and Dr. Hooper-Simanga have really helped me reach my potential. They encourage me to work hard and they give me the resources I need to be successful.
I am on the road to academic success. Last semester I was failing all of my classes when progress reports came out. But I ended up passing all of my core classes! What a proud day that was not only for me and my dad, but all my teachers and even my principal.
Now I have a new attitude about being in high school and I feel optimistic about the great things that I will receive from being at Westlake and being a part of the CIS family. This year I was crowned Mr. Communities in Schools, 2014-15. That lets me know I was making progress.
I am now making new friends and no longer get that shaking in my knees when I meet people. I am involved in several extra-curricular activities and I like meeting new people. Even my teachers are cool.
I now have the confidence and the assurance in knowing that I will be a successful student and pass all my classes. I didn't used to think that way, but I can picture myself graduating from high school and making my family proud.
